I always tried by hardest to win, to beat my big brother, but always ended up
disappointed as I walked away the loser, after he outsmarted me, time and again.
However, seeing my disappointment, I he would always ask for a rematch, and I
always just happened to win. It must have been magic!
Christmas mornings I would wake
up no later than 5 o’clock in the morning, excited to see what Santa had brought
us. The rule was we couldn’t wake our parents up before 8 o’clock, so I would
burst into Andrew’s room and wake him up. He was less than thrilled. However, he
would always get over it and his caring side would shine through. He’d put aside
the fact that he was angry about his wake up call and keep me busy, coloring or
playing games with me. It is this side of him that assures me he will treat
Emily well, with kindness and compassion. I know he will care for her even more
than he cared for me.
In my eyes, my big brother was
always amazing. One time he brought a shark home from school that his teacher
wanted him to dissect. Later he won a science fair project for a robot that he
made himself. It moved its eyes and arms when the correct buttons were pushed.
For his senior project in college, Andrew created a computer game. He worked
hard and long for a semester. It was finally completed, and helped him land a
job as the virtual reality computer programmer that he still is today. Andrew
always marched to the beat of a different drum, but it was because of this love
for science and computers that lead him to Emily.
Andy will bring his sharp wit,
intelligence, selflessness and caring heart to his new marriage, ensuring a life
of happiness for both him and my new sister-in-law. I remember the first time I
saw them together. Andrew had an air about him that I’d never seen him have
before. It was complete elation with his relationship with Emily. It was from
that day that I had no doubts that she was the woman for my brother.
I know that Andrew and Emily
will have a good life together. The way they look into each others eyes and the
beaming smiles they give each other fills my heart as well, because I know my
brother is happier than he ever has been before.
So to my dear brother and his
new wife, I give you my blessing. May you have a long and happy life together.
